Why Ohanaeze Endorsed Atiku/Obi – Nwodo

As controversy trails Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the February 16 presidential election, the president-general of the pan- Igbo body, Dr. Nnia Nwodo, has risen in defence of it.

In an interview yesterday on Solid FM, an Enugu-based radio station, which LEADERSHIP monitored, Nwodo described the upcoming presidential election “as a war to change Igbo status in Nigeria and banish unemployment among youths in the Southeast.”

Nwodo said: “It is a war to banish unemployment among youths in the Igboland, it is war to have sovereignty on our natural resources, it is war to be recognised as equal partners.”

Reacting to suggestions that Ohanaeze should have been more diplomatic on the matter, Nwodo said that Igbo were completely down, adding that “he who is on ground fears no fall, hence the decision.”
