NNPCL Slashes Petrol Price to ₦815 Per Litre in Abuja

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, bringing a measure of relief to motorists amid ongoing market competition.On-ground checks by journalists and correspondents in Abuja on Monday morning confirmed that several NNPCL-owned retail outlets have adjusted their pumps to sell petrol at ₦815 per litre, down from the previous ₦835 per litre. This represents a ₦20 reduction per litre.The price cut was quietly implemented on Sunday evening, according to filling station attendants who spoke on condition of anonymity. Stations in areas such as Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and the Kubwa Expressway were among those reflecting the new rate.This latest adjustment comes just weeks after NNPCL's previous cut on December 19, 2025, when prices dropped by ₦80 from ₦915 to ₦835 per litre. Industry observers attribute the reductions to intensified competition in Nigeria's deregulated downstream oil sector, particularly from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.Despite the drop, NNPCL's ₦815 per litre remains higher than the ₦739 per litre currently offered at some private outlets, including MRS stations supplied by Dangote Refinery.Motorists in Abuja have welcomed the development, with many expressing hope for further reductions as local refining capacity ramps up and market forces continue to drive prices down.
