Shettima Departs Abuja To Represent Tinubu At Guinea-Conakry's Presidential Inuaguration

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed from Abuja on a key diplomatic mission, first representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea's President-elect General Mamady Doumbouya in Conakry, Guinea-Conakry, before proceeding to the prestigious 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The inauguration ceremony for President Doumbouya, who won a decisive victory in the December 2025 presidential election following a four-year military transition period since the 2021 coup is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the General Lansana Conté Stadium (GLC Stadium) in Nongo, Conakry.Nigeria's participation underscores its continued leadership role within the ECOWAS regional bloc and its commitment to supporting Guinea's successful return to constitutional democracy. The visit aligns closely with President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda, emphasizing strengthened regional cooperation, economic partnerships, and Africa's greater integration into the global economy.Beyond symbolism, the engagement seeks to boost bilateral economic ties between Nigeria and Guinea. Recent trade data shows promising growth, with Nigerian exports especially in manufactured goods and agricultural products reaching approximately $3.29 million in recent periods.Following the inauguration, Vice President Shettima will travel to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to attend the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, taking place from January 19 to 23, 2026.This year's WEF convenes under the timely theme “A Spirit of Dialogue”, bringing together thousands of leaders from government, business, civil society, academia, and other sectors. The forum provides a neutral platform for open conversations, collaborative problem-solving, and forward-thinking solutions to pressing global issues amid rapid geopolitical, technological, and societal transformations.Discussions will center on frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology, and advanced energy systems. Participants will explore how these innovations can be responsibly harnessed to drive inclusive growth, expand opportunities in emerging markets, build workforce skills for the future, and advance sustainable, equitable development worldwide.During his time in Davos, Vice President Shettima is expected to hold high-level engagements with global leaders, investors, and policymakers. He will spotlight Nigeria’s ongoing economic reform agenda, highlight attractive investment opportunities, and advocate for Africa's pivotal role in building a more resilient and inclusive global future. The Vice President is anticipated to return to Nigeria upon completing his commitments in Davos.
