Stop attacking Atiku, Dele Momodu tells Amaechi

 Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, has appealed to
Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, to tone down his rhetoric on
former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

 

In an interview on Tuesday, Amaechi said Abubakar has
nothing new to offer the country as president, adding that although the
ex-number two has consistently emerged victorious in party primaries over the
years, he failed to convert those victories to electoral success at the
national level.

 

In a riposte on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’,
Momodu described Amaechi’s remarks as unbecoming of a presidential hopeful.

 

“Mr Amaechi, in the name of Almighty God, should please cool
his temper,” Momodu said.

 

 

“A potential presidential candidate and possible president
of Nigeria must watch his temper and temperament and does not need to attack
Atiku.”

 

Momodu said the 2027 presidential race is going to be a
contest dominated by heavyweights across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

 

He pointed to reports of a potential declaration by former
President Goodluck Jonathan from the south-south, the incumbency advantage of
President Bola Tinubu from the south-west, and a possible alliance between
Peter Obi (south-east) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (north-west).

 

 

“President Jonathan is formidable. President Bola Tinubu,
being the sitting president, is extraordinarily formidable. And the combination
of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, if what they are planning goes through, is going to
be formidable,” Momodu said.

 

“Which means we are going to have a very, very big fish from
the south-south, a lesser big fish from the south-east, and the biggest fish of
them from the south-west. So which direction would ADC look strategically?”
