Troops Neutralise Five Terrorists, Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims in Zamfara Gun Battle

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed five suspected terrorists and rescued 11 kidnapped victims during a fierce gun battle along the Gambada–Gummi–Sokoto road in Zamfara State.    The operation occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, as the troops conducted offensive patrols in the area, according to counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama.    During the intense exchange of gunfire, five terrorists were neutralised while others fled into the surrounding bush under heavy military fire. The fleeing terrorists abandoned 11 kidnapped victims and one motorcycle, which were recovered by the troops.    The rescued victims were promptly secured and evacuated to safety, where they received medical attention and debriefing.   Troops have sustained pursuit operations to track down the remaining suspects and prevent them from regrouping. This latest success adds to ongoing military efforts to restore security in the troubled Northwest region.
