How is the Fifa FIFPro World XI decided?

The best goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders and forwards of the past year, voted by professionals, will be honoured at the Ballon d'Or Gala. Goal looks at how the system works

On January 12, the Fifa FIFPro World XI will be announced at the star-studded Ballon d'Or Gala in Zurich.

The team will include a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards and are the players who have been judged to be the best in their positions in 2014.

Unlike the Ballon d'Or prize itself, which is voted for by national team captains and coaches, as well as select journalists, the FIFPro XI is made up solely of names chosen by over 50,000 professional footballers from a total of 70 countries.
