Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid's new signings have surprised me

The world's most expensive player says the new recruits are fitting in better than he expected and that his side are working hard to be ready for the upcoming campaign
Ronaldo was speaking after his 10-minute hat-trick in the second half secured a 3-0 win over Chivas USA.

Madrid have signed Nuri Sahin, Fabio Coentrao, Jose Callejon and Hamit Altintop this summer, and Ronaldo was quoted as saying by Marca: "All the new players have surprised me. They are doing very well.

"We are doing very well and we are starting to get in shape ahead of the new season. Three goals in 10 minutes? Yeah...that's fine. But we must continue to work well for the beginning of the season. This game was a good workout and I am happy because we won."

Ronaldo's team-mate Karim Benzema admitted that the team struggled in a first half that yielded no goals, but was pleased that everything eventually worked out in terms of the result.

"The team struggled somewhat in the opening 45 minutes but we were much better after the break. We had chances and in the end we won," he said.

"I did a lot of work for the team and I hope that I can score in the next game. As for Ronaldo, he is huge for us."
