Explosion In Maiduguri Kills Soldier, Injures Two

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri said today that a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists and targeted at JTF patrol vehicles killed one soldier and wounded two others.  Ten suspects were arrested.

A statement by JTF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa said the incident took place at a branch of First Bank/Mr Bigs Round About in Maiduguri city at about 12:15 am local time. 

There were no civilian casualties, but a Toyota Hilux vehicle and a Civil Honda Accord car were damaged.

“The area was cordoned off and swept by the Bomb Disposal Arm of the JTF to avoid possible further explosion of undetonated bombs on poor innocent civilians,” Musa said.
