Time for a Nigerian Lawyers Trust Fund [Nigeria Law School needs Help] - CJN

A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Mohammed Uwais, has urged Nigerian lawyers to rescue the Nigerian Law School (NLS) from its financial challenges.

This is as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, lamented the state of law practice in the country.

The retired justice made the call in Abuja at the weekend at a special dinner in honour of the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki (SAN), and the Minister of State, Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, organised by the 1986 Class of the Nigerian Law School, held at the Transcorp Hilto Hotel, Abuja.

Uwais lamented that the NLS was facing financial crisis as a result of inadequate funding from government and urged lawyers who passed through the school to assist their former school.

According to him, the creation of multi-campuses for the NLS brought about increased costs of running the institution, hence it has become difficult for it to meet its capital and recurrent budgets.

The multi-campus system, he went on was necessitated by increasing number of students who graduated from Law Departments of Nigerian universities who hadto go to the law school before they could qualify to practice law in the country.
