Neighbour breaks pastor’s head with spade

A plumber, Isaac Ibojemen, has appeared before an Abule Egba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, charged with assault.

He was docked for allegedly hitting a pastor on the head with a spade.

Ibojemen, who lives at Church Village in Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos, is facing a count of assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, told the court that the accused committed the offence within the estate on May 23, 2013.

Williams said that it was a misunderstanding between the children of the accused and those of the pastor (whose full identity wasn’t given as he was simply identified as Solomon), that led to his head being hit with a spade.

According to her, the children of both men had earlier engaged in a misunderstanding and that was what the pastor was trying to settle when the accused hit him on the head with the spade.

She said that following the assault, the complainant fell unconscious and bled from the injury sustained and had to be rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

 “The pastor lost some blood and was unconscious for days at the hospital,” the prosecutor said.

She said the offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 24, 2013 for mention.
