35-year-old Carpenter commits suicide in Enugu

The residents of Uwani Nguru community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State were on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the death of a middle aged man, Tochukwu Obodo, who allegedly committed suicide.

The 35-year-old carpenter who hailed from Ovoko in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area Enugu State allegedly hung himself on a mango tree close to his residence at Uwani Ugwu.

Info gathered was that the deceased returned from his Ovoko Community around 11am only to kill himself the same night.

A tenant in the same yard, Anthony Ezema who spoke to our correspondent said the deceased carpenter slept in the same bed with his younger brother Chinweugo Obodo but was surprised to see Tochukwu hanging on a mango tree the next morning.


 
He said: “Nobody can say exactly why he allegedly killed himself, but I can tell you that he did not quarrel with anybody the previous day that would have warranted such dastardly act”.

As at the time of this report, people were still trooping to the scene of the incident to confirm the death of the carpenter who was well known within the area.

Enugu state Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, Ebere Amarizu disclosed that Police have commenced full investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide.

“We have been informed of the alleged suicide of Tochukwu Obodo and the police are on top of the incident” he said.
