Gen Abdulsalami Advocates More Intelligence Sharing Amongst Security Agencies

Former Military Head Of State, General Abubakar Abdulsalami (rtd) has advocated a national security strategy to include joint data collection by security agencies and inter-agency to develop a comprehensive national security management in Nigeria to address the nation’s contemporary security challenges.

Delivering a lecture at the inauguration of the course 22 of the National Defence College, General Abubakar said the strategy becomes imperative as the nation approaches the 2015 general election.

Nigeria is currently witnessing increasing security threats and the dimensions of the threats are affecting the nation’s internal security landscape, thus requiring intense collaboration among security agencies to fight the trend.

General Abubakar said the absence of a comprehensive national security strategy has led to conflicting roles between agencies and has been a source of mistrust among them.

General Abubakar, who once served as the commandant of the then National War College, recommended strategies for tackling insecurity including harmonized training standards, joint central data base and intelligence sharing among security agencies. ChannelsTV
